For Prep's Sake ("we", "us", or "our") operates the PrepMate mobile application (the "App") and the website forprepssake.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our App and Services, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable privacy laws.

Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the App.

2. Intended Audience and Minimum Age

PrepMate is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it immediately from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at nick@forprepssake.com.

3. Personal Data We Collect

We collect several types of information to provide and improve our services:

A. Account Registration and Profile Data

To use PrepMate, you must create an account. We collect:

  • Email address
  • Password (stored in hashed, secure form by our authentication provider)
  • Name or display name (optional)

B. App Content and User Input (Household and Preparedness Data)

You provide data when customizing your emergency preparedness plan:

  • Household size (number of adults, children, and pets)
  • Targets (days of self-sufficiency target)
  • Inventory items (supply names, quantities, categories, units, and expiration/rotation dates)
  • Vehicles and vehicle kit items
  • Free-text notes and descriptions associated with inventory, checklists, or vehicles

Sensitive Information Risk: The App includes free-text fields (such as inventory item notes or vehicle remarks). While we do not actively request sensitive personal data (e.g., health data, medical needs, allergies), you may choose to enter such information. By typing sensitive personal details in free-text fields, you acknowledge that this data will be stored securely on our servers to display it back to you. We advise you not to enter highly sensitive details unless necessary for your preparedness planning.

C. Technical and Device Data

When you access the App, our backend server and SDKs may collect:

  • Device tokens for push notifications (if you grant permission)
  • IP address, operating system, app version, and basic technical logs necessary for security, rate-limiting, and diagnostics

D. Subscription and Transaction Data

Purchases are handled via Apple App Store or Google Play Store, processed through our billing partner RevenueCat.

  • We receive entitlement status (whether you have active Premium or Household plans), purchase dates, billing cycles, and current period ends.
  • Important: For Prep's Sake does not collect or store credit card details or bank account numbers. Payment processing is completely handled by Apple and Google.

E. AI Prompts and Data Flow

If you choose to use the AI Mate (chat) or AI Photo Scan features:

  • The text prompt or photo you submit will be sent to the Google Gemini API for processing.
  • No personal account details (like your email address) are sent to the AI API; only the specific prompt or photo content required to perform the analysis is shared.

We process your personal data under the following legal bases:

  1. Performance of a Contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)): To create your account, sync your inventory across devices, manage your household membership, and provide core App features.
  2. Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)): For sending push notifications (which you can toggle off anytime in your device settings).
  3. Legitimate Interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)): To run, secure, rate-limit, and maintain the stability of our App, and to provide customer support.
  4. Compliance with Legal Obligations (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c)): Where required by consumer, tax, or corporate law.

5. How We Use Your Data

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

  • To create and maintain your user account and verify your identity.
  • To synchronize your preparedness plans, inventories, and custom checklists across your logged-in devices.
  • To calculate and update your household "Prepper Score".
  • To deliver notification reminders for expiring inventory items (with your consent).
  • To process AI-assisted barcode search queries or photo scans when actively triggered by you.
  • To manage subscription entitlements (Premium Individual or Premium Household).
  • To handle support requests and troubleshoot technical bugs.

6. Sharing Your Data with Third Parties (Data Processors)

We do not sell your personal data. We share your data only with third-party service providers (processors) who help us operate the App under strict Data Processing Agreements (DPAs):

  • Supabase, Inc. (Database & Hosting): Secure cloud hosting, database management, and authentication services. Data is stored in EU-based data centers.
  • RevenueCat, Inc. (Subscription Sync): In-app purchase verification, subscription tracking, and entitlement status syncing.
  • Google LLC (Gemini API & Services): AI processing services. Prompts and photos sent to Gemini are processed in accordance with Google's cloud API safety standards and are not used to train Google's models.
  • Expo (650 Industries, Inc.): Used to deliver push notifications.

7. International Data Transfers

When we transfer data outside Denmark and the European Union / European Economic Area (EU/EEA), we ensure appropriate safeguards are implemented in accordance with the GDPR (such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) signed with our processors, or equivalent frameworks).

8. Data Retention Policy

We retain your personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy:

  • Active Accounts: Data is retained as long as your account remains active.
  • Deleted Accounts: If you delete your account, your personal data, inventory listings, household profiles, and vehicle kits will be permanently deleted or anonymized from our production database within 30 days.
  • Backups and Server Logs: Some technical log files and encrypted database backups may persist for up to an additional 30 days before being completely overwritten.
  • Subscription Transactions: Store billing identifiers and active entitlements are retained as required by financial, corporate, and consumer laws.

9. Your Rights under GDPR

If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right of Rectification: You can request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right of Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): You can request the deletion of your account and personal data (which you can also trigger in-app).
  • Right to Restrict Processing: You can request that we limit the processing of your data under certain conditions.
  • Right to Data Portability: You can request that we export your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object: You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent (e.g. notifications), you can withdraw it at any time.

10. Account Deletion Policy & Subscription Safety

You can initiate account deletion inside the App under Settings > Delete Account, or by submitting a request online at forprepssake.com/delete-account.

Subscription Reminder: Deleting your PrepMate account does not automatically cancel your active subscription in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. To avoid ongoing billing, you must cancel your subscription through your mobile device account settings (Apple Subscriptions or Google Play Subscriptions) directly.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in this App and updating the "Last Updated" date. We recommend reviewing this page periodically for changes.
